Sure would have been nice to see ACTUAL STOCK CARS race in the streets. Also, 80's Richard Petty, Willy T. Ribbs, and Dale, Sr. make an appearance

From the sounds of it though, the cars never quite worked. And at the time we already had trans-am which was basically what this series seemed to be trying to become. It had potential to be fun and it’s a mild bummer it never came to be, but I also think Nascar in the 80s is heavily underrated as the aero wars produced some wild street cars and innovations on the track. Hell, maybe they should’ve stuck with this idea but just had the full day oval cars going at it. Who knows what would’ve come from those garages...
I’m on mobile so I can’t embed it, but there’s a YouTube video of a panel of experts on how they cheated on race cars back in the 70s and 80s. One of the guys there had figured out he could hide a motor in the trunk of the Oldsmobiles and have effectively an adjustable rear wing that only came about because his wife’s new Oldsmobile had a “self closing” trunk. He used the mechanical allowances for that to get the room to hide this device. And there were dozens of other cheats going on at that time.
Edit: I just googled it and apparently that particular cheat was from the 1991/1992 cars. Still, some damn fine cheating!

Penske and Roush had been involved in the Trans Am Series, which already doing street ci rcuits. I am certain that could have assisted in the devel opment of the L-R cars.
